This policy explains what information ReviewInDetail ("we", "us") processes when you visit reviewindetail.com, and the choices you have. Questions? Email us at [email protected].
The short version
We run a product-review site supported by affiliate commissions. We use analytics to understand how the site is used, and we count clicks on outbound links to retailers like Amazon. We don't keep a database that identifies you, and we don't sell your information. In the EU and UK, analytics stay off until you agree. You can change your cookie choice anytime via the "Cookie settings" link in the footer.
What we process
When you visit, our analytics and hosting process technical data such as your approximate location (country or region), device and browser type, the referring page, the pages you view, and the time of your visit. Our delivery and security provider also processes your IP address to serve pages and protect the site.
When you click a link to a retailer, we record that a click happened and which content it came from, so we can see which products interest our readers. This holds no name, email, or payment information, and no product prices.
There are no accounts or sign-up forms. If you email us, we will have your email address in order to reply.
Cookies
We use a small number of cookies. In the EU and UK, analytics cookies are set only after you consent:
– **`_ga`, `_ga_*`** (Google Analytics) — distinguish visitors and sessions; set only after consent in the EU/UK; last up to 13 months.
– **`rid_consent`** (set by us) — remembers your cookie choice; essential; lasts 180 days.
– **`__cf_bm`, `cf_clearance`** (Cloudflare) — bot management and security; essential; short-lived.
Before you choose — and whenever you decline — analytics runs in a cookieless mode that stores no identifier on your device.
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to measure site usage; Google processes this data on our behalf. Google Analytics 4 does not log or store your IP address. Through Google's Consent Mode, no analytics cookies are set and no identifiers are stored in the EU/UK until you consent; if you decline, only aggregated, cookieless signals are processed.
You can learn how Google uses data at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites, or opt out of Google Analytics on every site with Google's browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
Affiliate links and the Amazon Associates Program
ReviewInDetail participates in the Amazon Associates Program, an affiliate program that lets us earn fees by linking to Amazon and affiliated sites. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. We may also take part in other affiliate programs. When you click an affiliate link and buy something, the retailer may set its own cookies and handle your information under its own privacy policy, which we don't control. Affiliate links never change the price you pay.
How we use this information
To operate and secure the site, to understand which content and products are useful to our readers, and to improve what we publish.
Legal bases (EU/UK visitors)
We rely on your consent for analytics cookies. We rely on our legitimate interests for essential operations — delivering pages, security, and basic measurement that stores no identifier on your device. Where we rely on legitimate interests, you may object.
Who we share it with
We don't sell your personal information. We share data only with the providers that run the site, acting on our instructions: Google (analytics) and Cloudflare (delivery and security). Retailers you click through to, such as Amazon, are independent and handle your data under their own policies. We may disclose information where the law requires it.
International transfers
Our providers (Google, Cloudflare) are based in the United States, so your information may be processed there under appropriate safeguards such as the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or Standard Contractual Clauses.
Data retention
We keep analytics data for the retention period configured in Google Analytics (up to 14 months). Your cookie choice is remembered for 180 days. We don't keep data longer than necessary.
Your rights and choices
Because we use analytics that don't identify you by name and keep no personal database of our own, in most cases we can't link the data we hold to a specific individual. The most direct way to control your data is to opt out of analytics — change your choice via the footer "Cookie settings" link, clear your cookies, or use Google's opt-out add-on.
If you are in the EU/UK or a US state with privacy rights, you also have rights to access, delete, or object to processing of your personal data, and to withdraw consent. To make a request, email us at [email protected] and we'll respond as the law requires. We don't sell your personal information, and we honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) browser signal as a valid opt-out. You won't be treated differently for exercising any of these rights. EU/UK visitors may also complain to their local data protection authority.
Managing your cookie choices
Change your analytics choice anytime using the "Cookie settings" link in the footer, which reopens the consent banner. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings.
Children's privacy
This site is not directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us information, email us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time and will revise the "Last updated" date above when we do.
