Do the technical innovations provide a noteworthy advantage, as promised by the manufacturer, or is the new cordless vacuum cleaner from Dyson just a fish story?
How does the Dyson V10 perform in the cleaning test?
The heart of our detailed Dyson Cyclone V10 Absolute test is the cleaning performance of the battery-powered vacuum cleaner. Therefore, we have cleaned various floors with the V10 at the maximum suction level. We used the standard brush as an attachment. The Dyson V10 was able to satisfy us with its suction performance.
Suction test on hard floors
Amazingly, the V10 sucked up all types of dirt with no problem. Only with sand were there a few barely visible remnants. When cleaning low-pile carpet, the Dyson V10 also easily collected all stars in our test. All the dirt that we had so laboriously spread disappeared easily into the battery-powered vacuum bin.
Suction performance on high-pile carpeting
Normally, dirt gets trapped deep in the carpet and vacuum cleaners struggle to clean it. This was not the case with the Dyson V10, with which we were able to vacuum away everything even on the long-pile carpet. We found that of the different suction modes, the medium suction mode was the most suitable for long-pile carpeting.
Dyson V10 – how is the suction performance in everyday use?
These were of course tough conditions that we prepared for the Dyson V10 Absolute to put through its paces. But when it comes to the suction performance in everyday use, how does it perform? There are also special daily challenges that a cordless vacuum cleaner has to overcome.
After five weeks of regular use, we can say that the Dyson Cyclone V10 Absolute is a real help in the household. During that time, we did not come across any dirt that the Dyson Cyclone V10 Absolute could not handle. However, the test of the Dyson V11 Absolute was even more remarkable.
The cordless vacuums, often have problems with long hairs wrapping around the roller and it eventually being blocked. However, this very rarely happened with the Dyson and the roller did not even block.
The design of the Dyson Cyclone V10 Absolute
The Dyson V10, like its predecessors, looks like it has come from the future to give us a hand with the vacuuming. But Dyson has made significant changes to the design of the new model, and we’ve checked out these changes for you in our latest Dyson V10 Absolute review.
The suction tube is now the extension of the dirt bin, and the emptying flap now surrounds the suction tube. The new bin is also much longer and when changing the attachment, you attach it directly to the dirt bin. For emptying the bin, it is now pushed instead of being pulled. To empty the dirt bin, it now has a small valve on the bottom.
Now the Hepa filter is located at the rear of the motor. In terms of colors, the customers are spoiled for choice. The Dyson V10 comes in five different colors, all of which have the typical metallic look.
Dimensions of the Dyson V10
The bagless battery-powered vacuum cleaner weighs 5.73 pounds (2.6 kg). The height of the Dyson with the suction tube and roller on the floor is about 49.21 inches (125 cm), although the size plays a minor role due to the very flexible joint between the tube and the floor roller. Due to the individual angle of inclination, the Dyson V10 fits well in the hand when vacuuming.
Due to the, at the beginning described, changes in the design, the dirt bin was increased in diameter and also in length. This results in an increased capacity of the dirt bin (approx. 0.2 gallons (750 ml) ).
Your advantage: 0.2 gallons (750 ml) capacity is a real plus since you don’t have to empty the dirt bin as frequently.
The result is quite different when you convert the V10 to a handheld vacuum cleaner. Although the suction power is still good, it is still heavier than the average hand vacuum cleaner with its 3.74 pounds (1.7 kg).
Dyson V10 – Comparison of the three V10 models
While researching for our Dyson V10 review, we found out that there are three different versions:
- V10 Absolute
- V10 Animal
- V10 Motorhead
So naturally, we customers ask ourselves the questions: What are the differences between the three models and which model is best for me?
There are no major differences between the models; V10 Motorhead has a smaller dust bin of 0.14 gallons (540 ml) and less equipment. Differences are:

After we tested the Dyson V10 Absolute, we think that “much is sometimes more” applies exceptionally in terms of equipment. The accessories are very sophisticated and an additional purchase * of individual components is available, but costs extra.
Therefore, we tend to recommend the Dyson Cyclone V10 Absolute, since the scope of delivery is larger. The included soft roller is particularly impressive here, which is a useful extra for those who have many hard floors to clean. The Dyson V10 Motorhead does not get a purchase recommendation from us, since you have to accept considerable restrictions with this model.
Extra tip: It should be said at this point that the old attachments of the Dyson V6, V7 are no longer compatible with the newer Dyson V8 and V10. But an adapter can provide a remedy here.
How does the Dyson Cyclone V10 Absolute clean?
In this review, there is a lot of information that is not in the Dyson Cyclone V10 Absolute user manual. For example, we took a closer look at the cleaning system: Dyson uses the Dual Cyclone technology in its vacuums for cleaning. For this purpose, the battery vacuums have two cyclone chambers. The cyclones swirl the air and thus cause the dirt to be thrown cleanly to the outside. This way, not only very coarse dirt is removed, but also very fine dust.
So how do the special Dyson V10 Absolute attachments contribute to cleaning?
Each of the Dyson Cyclone V10 Absolute attachments helps the cleaning process in its way, and we’ve explained it for you. For example, let’s take the two most important attachments that came with the device. They are used for cleaning different floors:
First, there is the Dyson V10 brush-roller motorized head. This is the included Dyson V10 attachment that acts as an all-rounder. The roller works on hard floors and especially well on carpet. It helps to pick up dirt with its brush bristles and move it towards the cyclone chamber.
On the other hand, we have the Dyson V10 soft roller motorized head. The main application of this roller is hard floors and it is a true specialist in this field. Thanks to the soft roller, the dirt is not pushed away from the roller, but the dirt pushes itself into the roller and then gets caught by the airflow and is thrown towards the cyclone chamber. Furthermore, the soft roller helps to prevent scratches on the floor.
The two rollers have their small electric motor, each of which is located directly on the roller and contributes extra power to the Dyson V10.
Even though the soft roller works much better on hard floors, it’s not necessary to change the rollers. The all-round brush already works very well on any surface. You can also set the all-around roller to three different heights to suit various grounds. For this, you just have to press a small button directly on the roller.
The Dyson Cyclone V10 Absolute as a (rechargeable) hand vacuum cleaner
In addition to the cleaning rollers for the floor, other attachments can also be used for the Dyson V10. The battery-powered vacuum cleaner is quickly and easily transformed into a hand-held vacuum cleaner. The Dyson V10 Absolute test showed that the Dyson V10 hand vacuum is perfect for cleaning corners, furniture, or cars.
How many suction levels does the new Dyson Cyclone V10 Absolute have? You can now choose between three different power modes for the cordless vacuum cleaner. A small switch on the top of the motor is used to set the mode. Of course, the suction power depends on the mode selected. The battery’s runtime also depends on the different suction modes.
How easy is it to use the Dyson V10?
Using the Dyson V10 cordless vacuum cleaner is very simple. It comes in a large box made of cardboard, and the packaging of the different accessories was also done without plastic, which we were very pleased about.
When the parts are unpacked and the battery of the vacuum cleaner is fully charged for the first time after 3.5 hours, you can start right away. Without cables, without bags, just put together the parts you need and start vacuuming. In a matter of seconds and a few simple steps, the Dyson V10 can be converted from a stick vacuum to a hand vacuum. You just have to press one of the red buttons of the plug-in system and pull off or put on the attachments.
How long does the battery of the Dyson Cyclone V10 Absolute last?
The battery is the bottleneck of cordless vacuums for years. There was always the worrying question at the back of our minds: Will the battery be enough to vacuum my entire apartment? Customers ask themselves these and similar questions, and with good reason.
This is not the least of the reasons why the further development of the battery and the runtime is also a focus at Dyson for every model. By adding the supposedly low mode 1, Dyson manages to get the really long battery runtime of 50 minutes with its new battery-powered vacuum. That is 10 minutes less than the manufacturer claims, but it is still a remarkable step in development.
In Max mode, the battery only lasts for about 9 minutes. But the suction power in this mode is so enormous – you will only need it in exceptional cases when the dirt is really stubborn. The battery of the Dyson Cyclone V10 Absolute lasts about 30 minutes in medium mode. In our test period, this was mostly the mode of choice and it proved its worth for vacuuming 1000 to 1200 square feet on one go.
These battery runtimes allow us to rate Dyson as an excellent performer.
What are the maneuverability and agility of the new Dyson V10 like?
The Dyson Cyclone V10 Absolute is very flexible in its moves. Thanks to the joint between the roller and the tube, you can turn around the corner at a right angle. This allows it to maneuver effortlessly through the room. Moreover, it can be laid flat on the floor at an almost 180-degree angle and you can easily reach it under higher furniture such as beds or wardrobes.
Since the motor is located directly on the handle and not at the bottom of the roller, as is known from many other manufacturers, it also helps to vacuum away the dust under the furniture.
Maintenance of the Dyson Cyclone V10 Absolute
Dyson’s cordless vacuums are very low maintenance. The maintenance of the vacuum cleaner consists of three parts:
- The emptying and cleaning of the dust bin.
- The cleaning of the filter
- The maintenance or replacement of the battery.
How to empty the Dyson Cyclone V10 Absolute dust bin?
Emptying the Dyson V10 dust bin is very easy. Emptying the dirt bin has been changed compared to previous models, as it is now perpendicular to the tube. At the bottom of the bin, there is now a small red slider.
If you hold the Dyson V10 over a bucket and push the slider away from you, the trash falls out easily and completely. If you do want to clean the bin, you can just press a button to remove it and just as easily put it back in after cleaning.
Is it possible to clean the Dyson Cyclone V10 Absolute Hepa filter?
Cleaning the Dyson V10’s Hepa filter (HEPA filter) is also easy, just like emptying it. The Hepa filter can be unscrewed from the back. It can then simply be washed out with cold water and used again after 24 hours. If any of the parts ever break, you can buy them again.
What is the battery life of the Dyson V10 like?
The Dyson V10 and the other devices are tested by the manufacturer for 10 years, which is how long the battery should last.
