Wyze Cam 1080p HD Indoor Wireless Smart Home Camera is one of the best smart home cameras on the market, thanks to its price and great features. When your budget is tight and wants to equip with a half dozen webcams around your house then you should consider purchasing this camera.
As you can see in the video below, it is amazingly easy to setup. All you need to set up is WiFi, have the camera plugged into an electrical outlet, and the Wyze app downloaded on your phone with no messing around with firewalls, routers, ports, etc. You will love the magnetic base as it can be stick to any ferrous metal surface. But the magnet could be stronger. If you don’t have a magnetic surface it comes with a 3M magnet which allows you to place on a wall easily.
The camera includes both a microphone and a speaker. Speaker quality is what you would expect from a speaker that is less than an inch in diameter. The Wyze camera picks up even faint sounds in the room.
Image quality is great and 1080p Full HD live streaming lets you see inside your home from anywhere in real-time using your mobile device. While live streaming, use two-way audio to speak with your friends and family through the Wyze app.
No SD card is required but you should consider getting one. The smartphone app lets you connect to your WyzeCam across the internet, watch a live stream from the camera, take a snapshot, or manually launch a recording session. Those functions do not require an SD card, so presumably, those files are also stored in the cloud. When you get a motion alert, you can launch the app and watch a live stream or start recording manually. But alerts don’t always arrive on time, so having an SD card recording automatically is a nice alternative. Because the SD card is on the device and it will still record if your internet connection is interrupted.
What are the Cons?
This camera is intended for inhouse use only so if you want to use outdoor you need to purchase an optional waterproof housing and running a 5 VDC power cable to each camera. The only way to access the WyzeCam is via a smartphone app.
Unfortunately, you can’t access it via an ordinary web browser, nor is there a desktop app. You can only connect it to a single smartphone, so only you or your spouse can monitor the camera, but not both of you. All internet cams have privacy concerns. Since this camera uses non-standard protocols, privacy is a concern here too. We did don’t technically test but some people think that video data pass through servers in China.
